Family Villa Backyard Makeover, Sharjah
A tired, sandy backyard turned into a play-safe family garden in four weeks: a hybrid natural and artificial lawn, a shaded patio, pool-edge turf and festoon lighting for evening barbecues.
The Challenge
A young family in Al Rahmaniya had a 310 m² backyard that nobody used. The lawn had worn to sand where the children played, the pool edge was slippery bare concrete, and there was no shade over the patio from noon onward. Their budget was realistic rather than unlimited, and they wanted the work done during the spring school break. The brief: a lawn that survives football, a safe pool surround and somewhere to eat outside in the evening.
Our Solution
We split the garden by how it is used. The sunny central area became a natural paspalum lawn, renovated and put on a simple monthly care plan. The high-wear goal end and the pool surround were laid in soft, 35 mm artificial grass with a cushioned underlay, safe to fall on and non-slip when wet. The patio gained a timber pergola with a retractable shade, and festoon lights strung between the pergola and the garden wall make it the evening room.
- Natural lawn renovated, scarified, top-dressed and re-sodded, with a monthly lawn-care plan covering mowing, feeding and pest checks.
- 95 m² of 35 mm child-safe artificial grass with a 10 mm shock-pad underlay on the play zone and pool surround.
- Timber pergola with a retractable shade sail over the patio, plus a compact planting strip of bougainvillea, frangipani and lantana for colour.
- Warm-white festoon lighting and 3000K LED step lights on a simple timer, no app required.
The Result
The garden was finished in four weeks, within the school break and on budget. The children now play on grass that does not turn to sand, the pool edge is safe when wet, and the family eats on the patio most evenings between October and May. Maintenance is one short monthly visit, exactly what a busy household asked for.
